Welcome to Westurban

Enjoy the new Website, please be patient as we work out the remaining glitches

What is Westurban?
Westurban Baseball is a league and a complex, dedicated to youth baseball. The league began in 1958 in what is now Buffalo Park, outgrew that site in 1960, moved to the corner of Central and Tyler and then in 1970 moved to its present location and started with 3 diamonds. Today the complex consists of eleven diamonds with a full service concession and lobby, which comprise nearly 40 acres of the Sedgwick County Park Complex in Wichita Kansas. In the beginning the league had a dozen teams now we have well over a 100 each year. In addition to being the home site for our league we are also home to the , the Greater Wichita Athletic League Baseball Program, several independent schools and Walter Johnson Semi-Pro Teams. The Complex has hosted several National Events such as the National Baseball Congress 18 and under Worlds Series, the American Amateur Baseball Congress Regional, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference State Tournament and annual Youth State tournaments.  What makes our Complex Unique?

Westurban is a Baseball only facility. You will not find fields that are designed for softball use or any other sport for that matter. Our fields are also age specific, you will not find teams playing on fields that are to big for them. Every batter at all ages has a chance to hit one out. Pitching mounds will be found on all fields for ages 8 and up and you will find grass infields on our largest fields. Parking is close by for all fields and the Concession Area, which has an Air Condition lobby, is centrally located.

Westurban has leagues that are age specific and within those age divisions ,teams are separated from recreational to competitive teams. Why is that important? We feel that it is important that kids play against others that are of similar age and skills in order for them to get the most out of baseball and to enjoy their experience. In our younger ages everyone plays and bats All participants ages 10 and under receive trophies and all participants regardless of age is given a yearbook. This approach has proven to be a winner, we produce not only good baseball players(Many of the All Metro team players played at westurban) we produce successful individuals.

Who is our League?

Westurban is made up of people just like you. we are parents players coaches umpires and volunteers who work together to provide an opportunity for those who want to play baseball in south central Kansas . We are a non-profit organization that receives no taxpayer support. Everything we have comes from users fees and volunteers.

When?

The Westurban Summer League will begin in mid-April and last until early July and the Fall League will begin late August and last until mid October. HOWEVER do not wait until April to Sign Up. Sign-ups begin in December for teams and February for individuals.

Polishing Diamonds

Tip of the Week 3-17-2010 by Polly Turf

Diamonds are made from carbon - so are kids. Heat and pressure shapes them both. Make sure all the kids have their attention. Position yourself where everyone can hear you. Excerpt from The Coach Mark I

Tip of the Week 3-10-2010 by Matt Drag

Diamonds are every size, shape, and color - so are kids. They both have their own inherent qualities which can be imitated and even synthesized, but are always best when appreciated for what they are Create situations where the kids have to think and react. Excerpt from The Coach by Mark I
